Govt to provide free Dengue vaccines to children

The government has announced plans to provide free Dengue vaccines to up to 800 children in several districts in Jakarta next month, as part of an experiment being conducted by five medical schools in Asia.
“We will keep monitoring [the children's health] over the next five years to see what happens to them. We want to learn whether the vaccines have the desired results or not,” Sri Rejeki Hadinegoro, a professor at Cipto Mangunkusumo General hospital, said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Previously, in a test involving soldiers, the vaccine showed promising results, Sri said, adding that if this trial was successful a similar would be conducted on children in other cities.
Jakarta’s Health Agency chief Dien Emmawati said she supported the tests, which she said would assist the government in providing the best measure to cope with the disease.
